Each rank from 1 through 5 requires 1,000 WXP; later ranks require 5,000 WXP.
FIELD GUIDE / 03
Time spent together,
progress you can keep.
From World Abilities to reward tracks, separate what you need now from your long-term goals.
01 / WORLD RANK
What changes as you rank up?
World Experience (WXP) earned in WvW is separate from PvE experience. Ranking up grants World Ability Points for movement, siege and utility abilities.
Earn points by ranking up. No additional ability points are awarded beyond rank 10,000.
Reaching certain rank thresholds increases pips per tick, helping you progress through weekly Skirmish rewards faster.
Read a booster's effect first.
Boosters you already own that increase WXP or WvW experience can help unlock abilities early. Not every PvE experience bonus affects WXP. WvW reward track bonuses and WXP bonuses are also separate. Boosters do not directly increase pips.
02 / WORLD ABILITIES
Start with movement, one step at a time.
This is a suggested order for beginners. World Abilities are separate from PvE masteries; adjust for your expansions and playstyle.
- Warclaw Mastery — riding in WvW: Invest one World Ability Point in the first rank to use it in WvW. Completing the old Warclaw reward track and collection is no longer a required step for riding. Check the Path of Fire requirement for WvW use.
- War Gliding Mastery — gliding in allied territory: The first rank lets you glide in territory your team owns. Check expansion requirements, and do not assume you can glide in enemy territory.
- Provisions Master — automatic looting: Aim for autoloot at rank 4. Check the game's autoloot settings too. The ability description lists higher-rank vendor options and account expansion requirements.
- Supply Master — using supply: Invest in supply-related abilities next. Build Master and Repair Master are separate abilities for siege construction and structure repairs, so choose according to your role.
03 / PARTICIPATION
Contribute and maintain participation.
Contributing to qualifying activities such as objective capture and defense events, enemy player kills and eligible NPC kills builds participation. Stay active with the squad rather than waiting, and check the participation indicator in game.
Check Skirmish reward progress under Current Match Rewards at the bottom of the screen above. Your participation tier and decay timer are shown separately in the game's participation indicator.
Participation requirement for Skirmish pips
You need participation tier 3 or higher to earn pips. When eligible, you receive pips every five-minute tick. The amount varies by rank bracket and skirmish conditions; check the in-game details.
Progress on regular WvW reward tracks depends on participation. If you remain inactive inside WvW, participation decays after the inactivity timer expires. Your participation and timer are preserved while outside WvW or logged out. You can leave the battlefield when taking a break.
| Tier | Selected WvW reward track | Skirmish pips |
|---|---|---|
| Tier 0 | Build participation first | Participation requirement not met |
| Tier 1–2 | Progress based on participation | Participation requirement not met |
| Tier 3–5 | Progress based on participation | Participation requirement met |
| Tier 6 | Maximum progress from participation | Participation requirement met |
Tier 6 does not itself grant more pips than tier 3. Extra pips depend on separate conditions such as rank. Leaving WvW preserves participation, but rewards do not keep accumulating while you are away.
04 / TWO REWARD TRACKS
Similar names, different rewards.
AUTOMATIC
Skirmish Reward Track
A weekly reward track progressed by pips when you meet the requirements. Rewards include Skirmish Claim Tickets used for WvW progression.

Choose your trackCurrencies you will encounter
| Currency | Main use |
|---|---|
| Badges of Honor | Buy equipment, consumables and more |
| Skirmish Claim Ticket | Purchases and crafting for Ascended and legendary equipment |
| Testimonies of Heroics currencies | Complete eligible hero challenges; check the relevant vendor's requirements |
| Memories of Battle | Equipment crafting material; tradable on the Trading Post |
USE WHAT YOU EARN
Choose your role before opening rewards.
Early on, getting the right stats for your role is more practical than making everything legendary. Decide what you want to contribute through damage, support and survivability, then explore these options.
| Rewards | How to use them |
|---|---|
| Warlord’s Armor Box | A source of stat-selectable Exotic armor. Check the slot, armor weight (Light, Medium or Heavy) and desired stats before choosing. |
| Skirmish Chest | A choice-based reward chest. You can wait until you have compared the currencies and consumables you need. |
| Grandmaster Mark Shard | Collect shards to exchange for a Grandmaster Mark. Check which type you need for Ascended equipment purchases and keep them accordingly. |
| Tome of Knowledge | An item for leveling a character. It is not a WXP booster or a WvW rank point. |
A vendor for your first gear set
At the TEID-07 Unified Vendor System in WvW, you can browse stat-selectable Exotic gear purchased with gold and Badges of Honor. Check the slots and available stats first. Ask about your build before investing in a more expensive rarity.
Need more hero points?
The Heroics Notary offers scrolls that complete hero challenges in exchange for Testimonies of Heroics currencies. Check your character's unfinished challenges, owned expansions and the region targeted by each scroll. Older Proofs or Testimonies on a returning account may differ from current currencies.
Memories of Battle in material storage are also used for long-term crafting goals, so decide before selling them. Skirmish tickets are account-bound, and some rewards have weekly limits. Check both your wallet and inventory to find what you earned.

05 / LONG-TERM GOALS
Today's battle, tomorrow's goal.
A long-term crafting goal you can use across multiple builds.
The WvW legendary back item. Check rank and material requirements before crafting.
The WvW legendary ring. Check the currencies and crafting steps required.
You do not need legendary gear on your first day. Choose your next goal based on your current equipment and how you want to play.
Each legendary has its own path.
WvW legendary armor uses the relevant Ascended armor from the Triumphant Hero lines as its foundation. Warlord's armor does not upgrade directly into legendary armor. Gift of Battle is used in legendary weapon crafting, so check whether your chosen recipe needs it.
Explore skins and other collection goals
Beyond equipment stats, you can collect Mistforged Triumphant Hero armor, Mistforged Hero and Obsidian weapon skins, and Catmander tags. Similar names may have different rarities, prerequisite unlocks and rank requirements, so check each item before buying.
